Wash for your scalp, condition for your lengths
Shampoo is for the scalp, where oil and build-up collect. Massage it in gently with your fingertips rather than scrubbing the lengths. Conditioner belongs on the mid-lengths and ends, which are older and drier.
Most people don't need to wash daily. Oily scalps may need it more often; dry or curly hair usually does better with fewer washes.
Go easy on heat
Use a heat protectant every time you blow-dry, straighten or curl. Keep tools at a moderate temperature and avoid passing the same section repeatedly. Let hair air-dry partly before blow-drying to reduce time under heat.
Handle wet hair gently
Hair is most fragile when wet. Blot with a soft towel instead of rubbing, and detangle from the ends upward with a wide-tooth comb.
Eat and sleep well
Hair reflects overall health. Adequate protein, iron and hydration support growth. Sudden or heavy hair fall can have medical causes, so it's worth consulting a doctor if you notice a big change.
Trim regularly
Trims don't make hair grow faster, but they remove split ends before they travel up the strand. Every 8–12 weeks suits most people growing their hair; shorter styles need more frequent shaping.
